WATER FOR ALL

ABOUT US

We are high school students at Atlanta International School. Our names our Vishnu Ghanta (10th), Kaixuan Guo (11th), and Calder Zafft (10th). Atlanta International School is an International Baccalaureate school that has taught us the value of innovation. Throughout our years at AIS, we have become responsible global citizens who want to use our passions to improve the world. Elyco units are designed to provide half the water the average African family consumes daily. Well being under $100, being accessible, sustainable, and providing potable water.

OUR MISSION

Our Mission is to provide access to affordable, sustainable, and potable water worldwide. Inspired by nature, we seek a more prosperous tomorrow. Without water, no life can thrive. Join us today on our path to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Six, “Clean Water and Sanitation.”

OUR VISION

Our Vision is to one day see a world with water for all. Today, 2.7 billion people worldwide face severe water scarcity for at least one month of the year. We strive to look at the patterns in nature to build the “Elytra Collector.” Elyco units use active dew harvesting to one day collect between four to ten liters of water every day.

THE PROBLEM

Sub-Saharan Africa faces extreme adversity due to climate change, and a lack of potable, affordable, and accessible water. With over 16% of the world's population and only 9% of the world's freshwater supply and a rapidly growing population, Sub-Saharan Africa will see a greater strain on its water. As the strain on water increases so does violence, internal displacement, poor agricultural practices, and lower education for women.

THE PRODUCT

WATER COLLECTION

We are developing active dew harvesting units to produce around 9 ½ liters of water per day, half of what the average African family consumes daily. The water will be dispensed into a container to protect against contamination.

HOW IT WORKS

Powered by a 4x2’ solar panel, capable of producing 100 watts, the product has seven components. The product makes use of the sun in the tropics to power an active cooler, creating a temperature difference between the condensing sheet and the surrounding air. In doing so, the active cooler creates heat, dissipated by a heatsink and fan. The temperature difference allows water droplets to form, and then roll off thanks to a hydrophobic coating.

SUSTANIBLITY

Our goal is to produce a product that provides water to families for ten years. With the increased change in weather patterns due to climate change we hope to stabilize the strain on water in Sub-Saharan Africa for many years to come.
